“Just Do It” – Does Your Company Have a Memorable Tagline?

Yikes! I hope Nike doesn’t come after me. Everybody knows they own those three famous words. The brand tagline is globally famous.

Why Your Tagline Matters in Digital Marketing

In today’s crowded digital landscape, your tagline is more than a catchy phrase. It’s a strategic cornerstone of your video marketing strategy:

  • A conversation starter that captures attention.
  • A trust signal that reinforces your promise.
  • A memory hook that keeps your brand top of mind.

Just think of these iconic taglines:

  • Nike – Just Do It.Apple – Think Different.
  • McDonald’s – I’m Lovin’ It.
  • L’Oréal – Because You’re Worth It.
  • Coca-Cola – Open Happiness.
  • KFC – Finger Lickin’ Good.
  • MasterCard – There Are Some Things Money Can’t Buy. For Everything Else, There’s MasterCard.

They’re short, powerful, and over time have instantly become recognizable.

This summer, I wrapped up an exciting milestone — I was honored to be selected out of over 700 applicants for the Fundable Founders Learning Lab, a 10-week accelerator created by Black Ambition, the visionary nonprofit founded by Pharrell Williams, in partnership with Codner & Co and ACT House.

The 10-week virtual program, offers intensive training, mentorship, and networking to help diverse founders scale their businesses. The initiative is part of Black Ambition’s mission to close the opportunity and wealth gap through inclusive entrepreneurship.

During the program, one exercise in particular stood out: creating a clear: 30-second pitch which helped me to craft a new company tagline, for my audience to better understand my offerings.

  • Do you have a tagline for your company?
  • Does it truly capture your business offerings?
  • If so, how long did it take you to come up with it?
  • And most importantly — is it working for you?

How to Create a Memorable Tagline

If you don’t have a tagline yet — or if yours could use a refresh — here are three steps to guide you:

  1. Start with Your Core Promise
    • Ask: What transformation do my clients experience when they work with me?
  2. Focus on Your Audience, Not Just You
    • The best taglines speak to what your clients will gain — confidence, clarity, results, or joy.
  3. Keep It Short and Repeatable
    • Aim for 5–7 words max. If someone can’t easily say it back to you, it’s too long.

Try This Chat Prompt to Brainstorm with AI

Sometimes, staring at a blank page makes tagline writing harder than it should be. That’s where AI tools (like ChatGPT) can help spark ideas.

Here’s a prompt you can copy and paste into your favorite AI tool:

Prompt:
“I am a [type of business/professional] who helps [target audience] achieve [main result or benefit]. Generate 10 tagline options that are short (no more than 7 words), memorable, and audience-focused. Make them feel inspired and aligned with digital marketing best practices.”

For example, if you’re a business coach helping entrepreneurs gain clarity, your AI-generated results might include:

  • Clarity That Sparks Growth.
  • Your Vision. Your Strategy. Your Success.

You don’t have to use the suggestions as-is — but they’ll give you a strong starting point.

When and Where to Use Your Tagline

Once you have a tagline you love, don’t let it collect dust. Use it consistently across your brand:

  • In your social media bios (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube)
  • At the end of your videos and live streams
  • On your website and email signature
  • During presentations, webinars, and workshops
  • In all your marketing materials

Repetition builds recognition, and recognition builds trust.
