Two months after he has gone missing in Mexico, the friends and family of travel blogger Harry Devert are staying positive but they are fearing the worst. This past weekend they received messages that blame Harry’s disappearance on a cartel leader known as El Tigre.

Devert (33) who just celebrated a birthday in March was traveling by motorcycle on a trip that would have taken him across the United States and through Latin America. His goal was to arrive in Brazil in time for the World Cup when he suddenly stopped communicating with his family.  Devert’s mom said he was a good communicator and was last heard from in late January when he sent a text to his girlfriend updating her of his whereabouts.

His mom, Ann Devert, and several friends are in Mexico now, trying to figure out what happened to her missing son. According to reports in a recent USA Today article, “Ann said banners hung on Friday throughout the coastal town of La Union by a group known as Pueblos Libres claimed El Tigre, Adrian Reyes Cardenas, was responsible for the death of an American citizen as well as the disappearance of a globetrotter.” Devert family and friends assume the American mentioned may be Harry.

The search for Harry has faded in traditional media but remains very active in social media. The Facebook page, Help Find Harry, is updated regularly. On the 50th day of Harry’s disappearance his mom posted the message below asking for your help in finding her son.

“Dear Friends, Today is the 50th day since Harry disappeared. I want to thank you for continuing to check on Harry’s facebook page and here on the Help Find Harry page. This past week I listened in to a conference held at the US Embassy in Mexico City at which the Vice Consul of the French Embassy, the Director of American Citizen Services at the American Embassy, the FBI point person and our Private Investigator were present. I also received a report from the Private Investigator following his meeting with the coordinator of the investigation by the Mexican Government. Every single person at Thursday’s and Friday’s meetings agreed that it is critical to get the Procuraduría General de la República (PGR) of Mexico committed to Harry’s case. This is the equivalent of the United States Attorney General’s office. The Procuraduría has vital contacts which, if mobilized, will enable the investigation to take a quantum leap forward.

They are aware of Harry but Harry’s case is one of many in a huge case load and it is no longer new news. They have left information gathering about Harry to state governments and the state governments have tossed responsibility for the investigation around like a frisbee since there have been reports (some of which surely were fabricated) of Harry in three states. We can, with your help, get the PGR to put the forces in motion which will bring us news of Harry. Our NY State Senators Gillibrand and Schumer and Congressman Eliot Engel have been helping but they need new numbers to make this happen. If we again write our Senators and our Congressmen and also Senator Robert Menendez, the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and ask them to put pressure on the Mexican Government’s PGR to commit to Finding Harry, this can happen.

I will, with help, draft letters which you can send to the appropriate people in the appropriate places to make this happen. I should have them posted here within a day, two days at the most. Let me stress that the reason the State Department is working with us is because of your interest and support since Harry first went missing. ..”

I thank you for your patience and continued interest. Harry loves the warm weather. Spring arrives this week. This is the perfect time to find him. Please let us know you’ll help. And in the meantime, LIVE YOUR LIFE! And may you love the life you live. All good wishes to you and those you love.”

Please take time out to write a letter to help Find Harry. Visit Help Find Harry for regular updates and guidance on how you can assist in the search for this missing blogger.

Before we get to the week ahead at Ready4Air there’s breaking news on the morning show front. Josh Elliott, “Good Morning America” anchor and news reader since 2011 has left the show and is heading to NBC Sports. I read over the weekend that he was leaving but when I got up this morning Josh was gone and replaced by Amy Robach. Josh we didn’t even get to say good-bye.

According to reports, Josh Elliott didn’t get what he wanted in his latest contract negotiations, reports claim he was asking for $8 million a year, so he is moving on.  In the meantime both Lara Spencer and Robin Roberts have re-signed and will be staying put. What’s going on over at ABC anyway? In December long time weatherman Sam Champion jumped ship and went over to the Weather Channel.  Will viewers keep watching? Stay tuned.

Whether it is a morning show or movie review show the countdown to “on-air” can be a roller coaster of emotions for talent and crew all depending on what is going on minutes before airtime. Every person has a designated job and we all know anything can happen and, in television, it usually does. Steven Ramey (show’s line producer) and Larry Michaels (show’s director) and I are keeping track of several moving elements during the show taping.

This week Ready4Air goes behind the scenes minutes before a show goes to air.

A travel blogger is missing. Both traditional and social media have been covering the story of missing travel blogger Harry Devert. Missing for two weeks now, the state department is now involved in the search and the social media world is using the hashtag #HelpFindHarry and the Facebook page  Help Find Harry as a contact point for anyone with information.

Devert (age 32), a known adventurer with a blog, began his journey traveling around the globe. In the latest leg of his trek through Latin America, Devert was traveling  from New York to Mexico on a green Kawasaki motorcycle and was headed to Zihuatanejo, Mexico which is the beach town featured in one of my favorite movies “Shawshank Redemption.”

While I was watching an interview on CBS News The Early Show on Monday with Devert’s  mom, Ann, who said she knew something was wrong after not hearing from her son.  Ann Devert told the show  “he always calls on his father’s birthday and this year he didn’t.”  The report also said that Devert’s  girlfriend Sarah Ashley Schiear last heard from him on January 25, in a text that read:

“Just got an hour and a half long escort out of some area it was too dangerous for me to be. Stopping for lunch and … voila Internet. … Gonna get back on the road soon. Apparently there’s another military escort waiting for me in some other town… I’m running way late because of the crazy military stuff…hopefully get a chance to talk to you tonight when I (hopefully) finally arrive.”

People try and reassure his mom that, as a tourist, is he safe, but his mom says there has been no sign of his motorcycle or the very large bodied blogger.

If anyone ever needed the power and reach of social media, it is Harry Devert’s family and friends.  So if you know anything about Harry’s whereabouts, please contact the family via the Help Find Harry Facebook page or send an email to helpfindharry@hotmail.com.
