From a toddler climbing inside a box and pretending that it is a spaceship to a teenager enamored with the latest video game, kids love toys. Understatement of the millennium, I know. But isn’t it true that every child (and many adults) love to get their hands on toys and games to entertain themselves?

Toy-buying can be tricky. As a case in point, I need to look no further than my four children. I’ve bought toys I thought they would love and they completely bombed. They’ve asked for toys that I felt sure they wouldn’t want because of their simplicity, and as it turned out, they loved them.

Blogger Bash/Sweet Suite 2015 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers, New York City

I was curious to see how my kids would react when a box of toys and games arrived from Debbie Mitchell. She received them from this year’s  #SweetSuite15, also known as the Biggest Night of Play which took place in New York City on July 16, 2015.  Each year attendees are shipped home a giant swag boxes full of toys from the event sponsors. This year Debbie graciously passed the toys along to my family.

My twin boys–Devin and Donovan, who are four years old–quickly lost interest in the box’s contents and went back to watching Paw Patrol. However, Devin did come back and claim the little mouse pictured above. Bit Bit is one of eight stackable, plush animals made by Bun Bun. They are the perfect size for his hand and they’re soft and pretty cute.

Sophia (8) and Makayla (6) are at the ages where toys are magical and games that require higher-order thinking skills are not as difficult anymore. Here are a few of their favorites:

iq logic

IQ Fit, a puzzle by SmartGames, was an immediate hit. The girls love it, I love it, and their dad loves it. IQ Fit is a 3D-puzzle. The puzzle pieces have to be fitted on the game board in such a way that it turns into a (flat) 2D-image. One of the protruding sides of each puzzle piece has one ball and the other side has two balls. Depending on how you turn a puzzle piece, you get more or less balls. When the puzzle is solved, all puzzle pieces will fit on the game board without any holes uncovered. IQ Fit has 120 challenges and five levels. Not only is it fun, but it also makes you turn things over in your head so you can do the puzzle correctly.

color alive collage

This Crayola Color Alive coloring book is the coolest coloring book I’ve ever seen. You can bring your child’s coloring creations to life when you download the free app. You simply scan the page your child colored, and you’ll get a 4D-image of whatever was colored. Sophia claimed this Skylanders coloring book, and after she colored a few pages I downloaded the app to my iPhone. As you can see, her creation popped up right on top of the table!

Qixels collage

Qixels is a craft where you add little pixel bricks to a color-coded template. When the pixel bricks are sprayed with water, they fuse together and you remove the design from the template. The design we got was a sword. It started off fun for Sophia and Makayla, but they lost interest pretty quickly. The biggest complaint was that the pixels were too small. In fact, the template itself was rather small, measuring only three-by-three inches. Makayla has the smallest fingers, but even she had a hard time adding the pixel bricks. Maybe we had a sample size and the craft actually does come in bigger sizes.

eye found it

DreamWorks Eye Found It! is a fun game of cooperation and teamwork that is supposed to build observation skills and attention to detail. The objective is for all the players to get to the movie premiere before all the movie snacks are gone. The board is six feet long and features scenes from animated DreamWorks movies such as Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, and Madagascar. Players move forward by finding as many of pictured items as they can. I think this is a game that you might really like or really not like because either everybody wins or everybody loses. On one hand, Eye Found It! does promote teamwork. On the other hand, people who like to work on their own may not get as much pleasure out of the game. Overall, I say the game is a winner because if nothing else, it definitely makes kids pay attention to small details. That’s a great skill to have in life.

riddle cube

Like IQ Fit, Riddle Cube is a game of challenges. Up to four players get a shape-shifting piece and they have one minute to fold, twist, and stretch their cubes into shapes that match the challenge card pulled for the round. There are 200 challenges–some are easy and others are rather difficult. It is a game of logic and reasoning. My girls didn’t like it as much as I did, but I admit that I’m partial to these kinds of games because you have to make sense of something that seems impossible. Speaking as a former teacher, students who did well in school were the ones who made mistakes but had developed the ability to look at a problem in a new way and come up with a solution. Riddle Cube is fun and challenges those neurological muscles.

animal collage

And finally, meet Smoky and Ying in the top photo and Timber and Yang in the bottom photo. Wild Republic makes these plush animals, which are actually 2-in-1 toys. Smoky and Timber and Ying and Yang come one stuffed inside the other. If your child gets tired of playing with Smoky the bear, she can reverse the toy and play with Timber the wolf. These toys are soft and sure to bring a smile to the face of any stuffed animal lover.

If you still have some Christmas shopping for kids to do, there’s still time to order the toys and games here. They make good gifts that will be appreciated and used. For more of the great toys and games that were part of this year’s SweetSuite15 Biggest Night of Play  check out bloggers unboxing their SWEETSUITE 15 SWAG BOX click on to the  ToyInsider.com YouTube Channel

Hope you have a Happy Holiday!

Happy Monday, All!

If you are a blogger waking up today, there’s a good chance you were in New York City last week attending either or both Blogger Bash/Sweet Suite and BlogHer15–what I call the Bloggers Palooza events. Last week was a great weekend to be in New York, which was overrun with thousands of bloggers. Both conferences, though very different, provided lots of seminars, parties, and opportunities for bloggers to connect with brands. Last year, I was honored to be a speaker at Blogger Bash. While I did not get to attend Blogger Bash every day, I enjoyed my one short day.

This was my second year attending each of these conferences, and I noticed a big shift. The emphasis was more on establishing brand and blogger relationships than giving away lots of stuff. Blogger Bash–held on July 16-17 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers overlooking the Hudson River–is produced by the awesome team led by Toy Insider Mom Laurie Stern Schacht. It was back for its second year, and it did not disappoint. The large, light, and airy venue was spectacular for a beautiful New York day.

The conference began on Wednesday, July 15 with a VIP cocktail reception sponsored by Delta Children at the Delta Children’s showroom in Chelsea and closed with a spectacular carnival sponsored by Canadian Lentils. In between the seminars (including one SEO and blogging, which I attended), there was time with celebrity photographer Anne Geddes, who signed autographs. AlSol Luxury Village gave one lucky Blogger Bash attendee a five-night, all-inclusive stay at their resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. And while these conferences are known for piling on the swag, this year, bloggers seemed to all agree that they were thrilled to leave the gifts behind and depart with more business cards and contacts. Blogging should be about building personal and professional relationships.

Vicki Winters of "The Vicki Winters Show" and "Live Streaming Ladies"

Vicki Winters of The Vicki Winters Show and Live Streaming Ladies

While at BlogHer15, I ran into Ms. Vicki Winters of the blog The Vicki Winters Show. We featured her last week on Ready4Air as she shared a few periscoping tips with me for my upcoming trip to the annual Summer Sizzle event in the British Virgin Islands. The weekend fashion show will be hosted by new Fox Empire Emmy nominee Taraji P. Henson and her costar Jussie Smollett.

My plan was to lose my Periscope virginity in the British Virgin Islands when I shoot live from the event, but Vicki urged me to lose it before the trip. So she and I did a little periscoping from the floor of BlogHer15. Here’s a link for you to watch.

And finally, we start the week off on Ready4Air with FiOS1 reporter Lyndsay Christian sharing a few tips on how to conduct man-on-the-street interviews, otherwise known as MOS. Christian tells us, “The purpose of the MOS is to add color and the human element to a news story and to get a genuine reaction from the people or community who will be affected by the subject matter. These are less formal, more off-the-cuff reactions and interviews.”

While I will be conducting my MOS on the beach this week, I will be sure to use Lyndsay’s tips to get the best out of my interviews.

We hope you’ll tune in and watch. Remember, if you are not following me on Periscope, download the app right here and follow me @Socialtvdeb!

Blogger Bash 2015 will be held July 16-17 in New York City.

By Denise Seegobin

I was lucky enough to be able to attend Blogger Bash this year. Blogger Bash is a two-day conference, complete with events, parties, special guest speakers, and round-table discussions, all designed to create a more meaningful dialogue between brands and bloggers. Over the course of the two days, guests engaged with leading companies in various lifestyle sectors, including toys, technology, baby products, fashion, food, and more. Brands provided a first look at new products coming to market, hands-on demonstrations, and, of course, some great swag.

One of the highlights on the second day was the #EAEvents Social Suite

This is where summer fun meets social good at this Element Associates party. We got to view the new Joseph Nogucci jewelry collection, got tips from Washdrops on throwing an eco-friendly car wash, helped AutoTexPink “wipe out breast cancer,” and much more.

Image

Let me give you an inside look at all of the brands that were there:

We viewed the new Miii jewelry collection by Joseph Nogucci. Miii bracelets are crafted from semiprecious stone beads and gleaming rhodium-plated magnets designed to bring all of your bracelets together in a perfect arm stack. Like individual charms on a bracelet, each Miii commemorates a specific milestone or memory. These are so reasonable that you would not believe that you could get so much for so little. They were beautiful.

No party would be complete without CoverGirl. They provided beauty services as well as CoverGirl Colorlicious Lip Gloss samples, which were given to all of us who attended. We were also treated to manicures and makeup touch-up featuring all the CoverGirl essentials.

We received samples of Washdrops, an award-winning green car wash solution. There is a quick, easy, and environmentally responsible way to wash your vehicle. Washdrops uses only one bucket of water—no hose or rinse is required to get a beautiful shine. Washdrops is ideal for school and non-profit car wash fundraisers, too. What a great product for all of us to have!

Finally, we got Smokey Bear, who celebrates his 70th birthday in 2014. He posed for photos and shared birthday cake with bloggers. Nine out of 10 wildfires are started by humans, and Smokey Bear still plays a key role in educating the public that, “Only YOU can prevent wildfires.”

The two hours here went by so fast. I loved every moment of it.

Thank you, Denise!

So what do the 2TVChicks love more than their jobs as producers? A good old-fashioned surprise. They write, “I’m not complaining. I love the craziness of my job and my life, but I wasn’t feeling great all weekend, so I was less than a perfect mom and that was bothering me all morning. The day moved along like any other, but then it suddenly took a turn. I ran out to get lunch and when I returned, the best surprise I could have asked for was about to happen.”

This week on Ready4Air (TV), we find out just what the surprise was that turned this producing mom’s day around.

When it comes to social media platforms, we know about Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc. The social media landscape is changing every day with new platforms on the horizon. A few weeks ago, we spoke with producer and strategist Caitlin Burns, who creates business strategies for media companies, and asked her about the platforms that companies and brands should pay close attention to.

This week in Ready4Air (Social), Caitlin Burns talks about the platforms that are going to make a difference in the way that brands are marketing and reaching their audience and the way people are communicating.

Stay tuned and thanks for stopping by.

Christmas came early for a few kids thanks to the BigToyBook’s Sweet Suite event and box that was sent to anyone who attended last August. I sent my box to team member Nay Ayache who has two little boys. When they opened the box, Nay says Zack and Andrew went crazy. Filled with all types of toys, games, and apps, there were enough toys to play with in August and to keep for later in the year.

This week, we repost Ready4Air (Brands & Bloggers) | Christmas In August With 2014 Sweet Suite Swag.

And, finally, a holiday toast isn’t complete without some form of bubbly. Whether you are hosting a party or looking for a good gift idea, this repost will have a little bit of both. In 2013, I attended the New York City Wine and Food Festival “Grand Tasting Event” and found a few good bottled ideas for holiday gifts.

In this week’s Ready4Air (Culinary Cues), it’s “Wines and Spirits – Drinks On Me!”

The team at DMMA (Nay Ayache, Alexis Trass Walker, and I) wants to thank you for your support, and we are wishing you and yours the happiest of holidays!

Whether you are appearing as a guest on a TV show or speaking before a crowd, you always wonder if your message resonates with your audience. As I gear up to speak before several different groups before the end of this year, I also wonder how to make sure my message comes across loud and clear. You know what makes me feel better? A little feedback.

I find it extremely helpful when I receive emails, tweets, or phone calls from individuals who have heard me speak or read my thoughts in Ready4Air blog posts, and give me feedback. The feedback can be positive or negative–at least it’s something–and I can improve or make adjustments to my message and presentation based on it.

Just so know you know, it’s never too late to give someone your feedback. I’m still getting comments from my summer presentation at the first annual Blogger Bash and 2014 Sweet Suite conference in July. The conference brought together hundreds of bloggers and brands for a chance to connect in a casual setting. The first day, I spoke to the VIP group and participated in the media panel on the second day. The VIP group was made of about 60 enthusiastic bloggers. We sat in an intimate setting while I gave tips on how to prepare for a television appearance. My presentation was an hour long and I walked, talked, and interacted with the audience and answered their questions about how best to prepare for a television appearance, how to become an expert and get on the radar of a TV producer, and how to ace a television interview in three to four minutes.

After my presentations, several of the bloggers approached me to tell me that they found the information that I provided very helpful and informative. I told each one to stay in touch, so when Gina Badalaty called me days after, I was more than happy to talk to her. Gina is a writer and blogger who writes about families caring for kids with special needs on her site Mom-Blog.com. She wanted information for an upcoming television appearance. “I reached out to Deborah Mitchell after she spoke at Blogger Bash’s Media Panel because I wanted her expert advice on an upcoming TV interview–my first. I thought that her experience as a producer would be very helpful to guide me in how I will need to prepare for this event. She was gracious enough to quickly schedule a call for me.”

Gina had lots of good questions. I answered them all and recorded our phone conversation for her to listen to at her convenience. A few weeks later, I checked back with her for an update. Gina told me she felt more prepared for her follow-up call with the show producers. “The call was very useful. The producers of the segment are still in pre-planning, so Deb guided me in what questions to ask to prepare. Now, I feel like I’m more prepared than they are! She guided me in terms of what I need to do for hair, makeup, background, talking points, pre-planning, and she helped me elaborate on strategies to ensure my goals are reached during the interview, along with the producer’s. She shared additional resources and even sent me a recording of the session. I was nervous when I got the interview invitation, but now I’m excited because I have such good advice going in.”

I’m glad to know that I could help at least one person get better prepared for an interview! LOL! As I plan my calendar of speaking events for the rest of the year, I want to know what messages resonate with you. So drop us a line or leave a comment below with your thoughts and ideas.

Also, take a couple of minutes to check our newest sizzle reel with highlights from Blogger Bash and Sweet Suite 2014.

I’m sad that summer is winding down. So to cheer myself up, I needed two ice cream cones with two scoops each. LOL! Just kidding about the ice cream. But I am sorry to see summer go. I spent the weekend with friends, celebrating the long weekend and talking about lots of things, including television. September is the premiere month for new and returning  television shows. According to the schedule it looks like most shows will begin their new season on Monday, September 8, while others will roll out on Monday September 15, so set your DVR’s.

While we wait for the new season to begin, please take some time to say a little prayer for Joan Rivers. In a very sudden and sad turn of events, the 81 year old comedian was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after she stopped breathing during a reported procedure on her vocal cords.

The feisty octogenarian was on life support over the weekend with her family at her side. Her daughter Melissa is keeping us up to date on her mom’s condition. Melissa Rivers issued this statement on Sunday: “Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed.” It was reported today that  Joan Rivers is being brought out of the medically induced coma, a process that could take another day before we know the status of her condition.

A few of my friends worked with Joan on her syndicated daytime talk show and  as we talked  during the weekend, they only had the nicest things to say about her. Joan we are thinking of you and praying for your recovery.

Ready4Air (Brands and Bloggers) | Christmas In August With 2014 Sweet Suite Swag

Elf Magic- Sweet Suite 2014

After going through a house move with my family, I assure you that I had no interest in opening another box ever again. So when the UPS guy showed up at my doorstep the other day with another huge unexpected box, I was surprised. When I opened it, it was filled with dozens of toys and games. It was a swag box courtesy of the 2014 Sweet Suite Biggest Night of Play! sponsored by TheBigToyBook.com that had been sent to me by the very thoughtful Debbie Mitchell (Debbie had been a speaker at the annual Blogger Bash conference in July). At that moment, I knew it was going to be Christmas in August for my boys, Zack and Andrew, who are four and two years old. I was right, because when they saw the colorful pile of toys on the kitchen table, they dived in and had a blast!

The first thing that caught their eyes was the Elf Magic package, which contained a book, a plush elf and paper snow. The prank-playing elf is a big deal for my kids, so much in fact that nine months after Christmas, he’s still a trending topic at the dinner table. A lot of bouncing and screaming happened as I unpacked it. I will at some point hide the book and maybe bring it back in November. But right now, that elf is firmly hanging by a foot from the toy box, and if I take it away they won’t stop complaining. I’m not enough of a masochist to put up with their complaining if I make it disappear.

My favorite toy was the Creativity Can by Faber-Castell. I liked the fact that it doesn’t contain instructions, and that the included picture was a mere guide to what the children could do. Andrew lost interest quickly, but Zack enlisted the help of his older cousin to finish up the figure. The project ended up pretty badly because the kids spilled glue everywhere, but I’m planning on redoing it with Zack when we have some time alone.

I don’t know how most moms do it, but I keep all crayons in one container, and I’m not very diligent with enforcing the caps-back-on-when-you’re-done rule, I end up having to replace coloring supplies every few months. The swag box saved me from a much needed trip to the store with a pretty awesome collection of Crayola Ultra-Clean washable markers and Faber-Castell beeswax crayons. The washable markers are a life saver when you have a wall and furniture artist such as Andrew in the house. I was able to effortlessly remove the colors from the walls and the lucite dining chairs with baby wipes, as you can see in the picture above. Priceless!

The Faber-Castell oil pastels are so vivid and beautiful, I’m definitely ordering them online! I know you can’t tell, but this is a drawing of Gollum climbing Mount Doom in Lord of The Rings. Don’t ask.

Sands Alive - Sweet Suite 2014. Photo credit: Deborah Mitchell Media Associates

Sands Alive by Play Visions- Sweet Suite 2014. Photo credit: Deborah Mitchell Media Associates

Sands Alive by Play Visions is possibly the most enjoyable toy Zack and Andrew have received in a while, and because it allows their creativity to flow freely, they ended up playing with it for four hours. The only issue was that, before I opened the bag, I assumed it was a commercial version of the flour and baby oil mix, commonly known as moon sand. In order to minimize the mess, I poured the contents of the bag in a plastic container on the balcony, thinking I would it hose it down later. Big mistake. The consistency of the “sand” is more like play dough, so I ended up with clumps trapped in the floor and kind of impossible to remove. That was a real “Aaargh!!!” moment, so I brought the kids and the sand back to the kitchen table. Whatever fell on the floor was easily swept after. As for the balcony, I guess I’ll have no choice but to invest in a vacuum cleaner.

A while ago I was asked by Zack’s daycare teacher to help him practice his fine motor skills at home, and I was looking for a toy that wouldn’t involve beads, since Andrew still puts things in his mouth. Getting Blox Bits by GoldieBlox in the box was a blessing: the idea is to creatively use sticks, cubes and barrels to build structures. While the pieces are still a chocking hazard, I found them easier to control than beads simply because they can’t roll off the table. A lot of inserting and focusing is required, and both kids loved it! They actually loved it so much that they requested I bring back the Sands Alive and incorporated the toys together. Even the lid of the creative can was necessary to create the perfect cake!

Now I’m a firm believer in the iPad and its constructive role in education, so you can imagine how taken I was with the Tiggly. The game consists of four shapes that are used with dedicated tablet apps; I thought it was too much of a baby app, and that, at the level my kids are at, it wouldn’t do much to further their skills and abilities. They did enjoy it a lot though, and there was enough bickering over it that I ended up taking it away. What I did love about it is that, with a household with two iPads such as ours, it’s easy to share the shapes and have fun.

For as long as I can remember, I have never left the house with my children without them picking flowers for me. Thames & Kosmos’ Flower & Leaf Press lets me keep the flowers neatly under a magnet on the fridge, and was also good practice for Zack’s fine motor skills. I loved that the kit can be replenished with any kind of paper. It doesn’t say so, but I tested it on copy paper, and it was just as good as the reinforced paper provided.

Bananagrams - Sweet Suite 2014

The word building game Bananagrams is not for my kids age, but like most moms I often adapt toys. While Zack was building his words, Andrew was finding alphabet letters. It also became an occasion to build towers!

Aquabot - Sweet Suite 2014. Photo credit: Deborah Mitchell Media Associates

Aquabot – Sweet Suite 2014. Photo credit: Deborah Mitchell Media Associates

For Hexbug’s Aquabot, I gathered my kids and nephews to watch the shark come to life in my huge, water-filled, salad bowl. Unfortunately, and despite my best efforts, the fish did not move, let alone swim. Batteries are included, and there is no mention of a having to replace them, so that was a little disappointing.

What I did not get to take pictures of were my two nephews, aged seven and nine, who came sweeping in my living room and grabbed McFarlane Toys’ Rabbids Invasion Plunger BlasterMinecraft Steve with Diamond Armor, Ohio Art’s Polar bear Nanoblock, and Ninja Turtle action figure by Playmates Toys, in addition to a couple more toys. They are clearly a big hit with the boys because I’m not even allowed to look at them.

As for the more girly toys, I saved them for my nieces on Christmas.

Thank you Blogger Bash and Sweet Suite for bringing us Christmas in August!

The awards season is starting a little early this year. Tonight is TV’s biggest awards night with the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards scheduled to air live at 8 pm EST/5 pm PST. The ceremony is airing in August almost a month earlier than usual. I was a little thrown off  track with the earlier date and the fact that the program is on a weekday as opposed to its usual weekend Sunday night. The early air date is not the only changes at the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will, as of 2015, implement online voting for its members to select nominees.  And for those of you who thought reality television might eventually go away, forget it! They now have their own award’s category.  The Academy introduced two new categories: Outstanding Structured Reality Program and Outstanding and Unstructured Reality Program. Shows vying for an Emmy tonight include, “Breaking Bad”, “True Detective”, “Mad Men” and “Game of Thrones.” In the comedy category “Modern Family” and “Orange is The New Black”  are in the running for the statue.

Looks like reality television is here to stay.

From reality shows to game shows. This week on Ready4Air teen film critic Jackson Murphy takes a look at the  evolution of the Game Show Network, a.k.a GSN.  Jackson writes in his post ” Game shows have been an important part of television since the beginning.”

In a kid, our family use to love game shows. Remember “Match Game,” Password” and “$25,000 Pyramid”? Well, television viewers can find these classic programs on GSN. The 24-hour network, which launched in 1994 and won two Daytime Emmy’s this year, is moving into the original programming arena.

This week Jackson takes a look at the Game Show Network’s new programming and a few of their rebooted classics.

It felt like Christmas in August last week  when I received ny Sweet Suite swag box filled with amazing toys, books, and games from the gang over at the bigtoybook.com

As you may recall I attended their first annual Blogger Bash and the 2014 edition of Sweet Suite’s The Biggest Night of Play event in New York City in July. The night was filled with food, events, and over 50 brands eager to spend one-on-one quality time with the hundreds of bloggers who were in attendance.

I joined several bloggers and brands in beautifully decorated rooms. I made the rounds, ate, and had a little fun with a few of the games, including the “Selfie ” where you pick a card from a deck of cards and act out the instructions as your opponents  try to guess what you are doing.  There were lots of brands for the big kids and little ones too. I don’t have any kids of my own but I’am surrounded by friends who do. So when the Sweet Suite swag box arrived, I was happy to spread the joy around.

This week on Ready4Air, DMMA team member and mom Nay Ayache gives her two little boys a Christmas surprise in the middle of their summer.

He’ll join our host Mike Sargent to talk about the end of summer latest releases, including Pierce Brosnan’s “November Man” and the new documentary “Through A Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People”. Mike Sargent sits down with filmmaker Thomas Allen Harris when the show airs on Saturday, August 30.

So stay tuned, enjoy your week and Happy Labor Day!

Sometimes you have to take a minute to smell the roses, or three hours to row the Delaware river. Which is what I did yesterday. I’ve been enjoying a few unexpected days off from being in the studio and got out of the city this weekend. Today, my arms hurt. LOL!!

When it comes to producing television, especially  a news show, moments of relaxation are hard to come by. In the past, I’ve written about the long intense work days  filled with what seems like endless deadlines, that could sometimes take a  physical and mental toll.  So a break is always welcome. A friend of mine took the summer off from her news job, I saw her recently and she looks great! She has spent the last few weeks traveling to visit friends and family, sleeping late and catching up on all the things she can’t do while she’s working.

Working is great but I have to say, there is something to be said about kicking back and soaking up the lazy days of summer.

And finally, we wrap up our series “Music Makes My Life” with American jazz pianist Eric Lewis, who goes by the stage name ELEW. I first was introduced to Eric’s style of “rock jazz” music a couple of years ago at a private record release party. The intimate group was brought to its feet when Eric began to play using his unique style of standing up and reaching inside the piano lid to pull the piano strings directly . While playing, the music puts Eric into a trance like state that holds the audience transfixed. He is soaked from sweat after every performance but the audience is guaranteed  an extraordinary musical ride. This week ELEW shares the music in his life.

Thanks for tuning in and enjoy your week.

I was lucky enough to be able to attend Blogger Bash this year. Blogger Bash is a two-day conference, complete with events, parties, special guest speakers, and round-table discussions, all designed to create a more meaningful dialogue between brands and bloggers. Over the course of the two days, guests will engage with leading companies in various lifestyle sectors, including toys, technology, baby products, fashion, food, and more. Brands will provide a first look at new products coming to market, hands-on demonstrations, and, of course, some great swag.

One of the highlights on the second day was the #EAEvents Social Suite

Related Post: Ready4Air (Brands and Bloggers) | A Day Of Fun And Connecting At Blogger Bash NYC

We got to view the new Miii jewelry collection by Joseph Nogucci.

Related Post: Ready4Air (Brands & Bloggers) Tips For Bloggers On How To Get A Toy Brand’s Attention

One of the things I used to enjoy about my summers when I was a talk show producer was the fact that I had several weeks off with full pay. Most syndicated talk shows go on hiatus usually starting at the end of May all the way through to the middle  of July; so that is close to six weeks of vacation. We actually needed those six weeks  to recover from our insane production schedule. We lived for those weeks during our production season,  LOL! Talk show producers today tell me that those days of paid summer hiatus are long gone. Now, syndicated show producers spend their summers working other jobs or they rest up and vacay do without pay. I am sorry to hear that since I know how hard these producers work. With this in mind, I cherish my past summer memories even more.

These days my work schedule with DMMA and Arise On Screen keeps me busy all year round. As you know by now, we tape on Saturdays. The Arise On Screen team usually finds a way to have a good time even while we  work on thru the summer weekends. Sometimes the work is a little harder than we expect, but we make do. A good example is this past Saturday. The studio was booked with several additional shows to be taped so we had to get in and out of the studio with little time to spare.

While a producer’s job can be  challenging, a show host has the more  difficult task of bringing  his “A” game  (especially if the show is live) every single time he or she is in front of the camera. But sometimes doesn’t always happen.

This week on Ready4Air, Arise On Screen host Mike Sargent will share his story about just what happens when he’s not feeling like he’s on his “A” game during a show taping.  “As host you have your goals for yourself, for the segment, and for what you’d like to get out of your co-hosts. If any number of those things doesn’t happen, ideally you’d like to be able to recover but sometimes (as in the case of this week) you don’t recover the way you like and that’s when the danger of your insecurities starting to slip in and rear their ugly head.”

Weekends are great, but they are even better when you spend them relaxing. Which is exactly what I did all day yesterday. By the end of last week I was ready for a nice relaxing weekend. On Saturday we taped a new episode of Arise On-screen and had a beautiful bon voyage party for one of our favorite co-hosts, film critic and artist Chiara Spagnoli Gabardi, who is heading back to Italy for the summer. What can I say, we love Chiara! Chiara appeared on our very first show and at least 14 more since we launched. Arise On Screen was Chiara’s first foray into television, and she took to it like a fish to water. Saturday was fun but bittersweet, but we know Chiara’s moving on to bigger and better things. Of course, we want her to come back soon. If all goes well we will see her in the fall.

This week for Ready4Air Chiara is a guest contributor where she writes about her evolution as a television personality and how much she’s come to love New York City and the world of TV.

2014 Blogger Bash Media Panel (l) Deborah Mitchell, Joey Fortman, Samantha Meiler, Samantha Murphy Kelly, Ciaran Blumenfeld

Last week Friday I wrapped up my speaking engagement for the first annual Blogger Bash event. I was invited to be a part of the two-day event. On the first day, Thursday, I spoke at the VIP morning session where I instructed bloggers on the ins and outs of getting on television, including how to get on a producers booking radar by becoming an expert, how to pitch a story to a producer and finally, how to ace the 3 to 4 minute interview once you’re booked on a television show. On Friday I was part of the media panel where I joined several successful women who specialized in social and traditional media.

The panel included our moderator  co-founder of Blogger Bash Joey Fortman, Nick Mom Marketing Director Samantha Meiler, Mashable Tech Reporter Samantha Murphy Kelly and blogger Ciaran Blumenfeld, founder of the companies Hashtracking and Momfluential Media.

This week in Ready4Air I will give you a recap of my two days of fun and teaching at the first annual Blogger Bash and Sweet Suite event.

And finally, as a television producer I use Google a lot and can appreciate a good website since it makes my job easier.  If I’m looking for a guest or want to know more about an expert, I look for the  website. You’ve all experienced it: every once in a while you google the name of a business or person and discover that it doesn’t have a website. And as you look away from the Google maps result in the right corner, you move the cursor to the search bar, already intent on finding a competitor online. If your business is the one without a website, you’ve just lost a potential client or media opportunity.  Needless to say this is bad for business. In January I re-launched my website and many of you have complimented me on it.  Finding a good web designer can be challenging so if you are looking to build a website let us know. In the meantime, my latest post for entrepreneur.com gives you four ways to get your online face ready for business. Take a minute to check it out.

Now, lets get ready to enjoy the week!

OMG! Yesterday was a whirlwind of blogger and brand fun!

First of all, I would like to thank all the bloggers who got up early to attend the VIP Blogger Bash media training session  which I hosted. It was the first of several sessions that are part of the two-day blogger and brand extravaganza and folks came ready  to play with lots of questions and comments. Hosts Joey Fortman of Real Mom Media ,Charlene DeLoache of Charlene Chronicles and  ‘Toy Insider Mom” Laurie Schacht outdid themselves with the venue space. The studio was a beautiful large white room with lots of sunlight streaming thru floor to ceiling windows. Our intimate group of about 65 bloggers began to arrive at around 10:00am and the room perked up with color as bloggers were seated at the tables.

I have to give a special shout out to Joey Fortman. She was in full producer mode determined to find a projector so that I could show my SlideShare presentation and sizzle reel demonstration. Well, not only did Joey purchase a projector early in the morning she actually set it up so that I could use it with my MacBook Pro. A producer who is tech savvy too!

I also have to thank Nay Ayache, the Social Media Outreach Coordinator for DMMA who worked overtime in putting together an amazing SlideShare and sizzle reel presentation for bloggers to view via our website during the session.

Once the bloggers settled down and Joey introduced me to the crowd, we got started. I quickly realized that as far as making a presentation, I’m more of a walk and talk kind of girl. I felt a lot more comfortable holding a microphone, walking and talking to the audience, as opposed to standing behind a podium.

Once I got the slide show started I put up maybe one or two slides, then I began interacting with the audience as I talked. In the hour I tried to cover a range of topics including how to become an expert and get on a  TV producer’s booking radar, how to pitch a story and finally  how to handle a 3-4 minute TV interview once you are booked.

It was fun to find out who the ladies in the room were and to learn about their television experience. I asked them who was interested in appearing on television and was very impressed with how experienced several of the ladies in the room were. They discussed what went into putting together their  segment and rated their experience on-air. For many, the appearance was positive and good enough to get them invited back . I chatted with the group for about an hour and met with a few of them individually afterwards to critique their YouTube videos.  And of course during it all there was lots of tweeting and posting going online. Overall it was a great morning!

Later on in the evening, after work, I stopped by The Big Toy Book Sweet Suite Event, where over 60 brands were displayed in several beautifully decorated rooms. This was a chance for bloggers to have one on one time with the brand spokesperson(s) who demonstrated their latest products. I found my new favorite game, “Selfie.”  For this game, I had to pick a card with a message from a deck of cards. Then I had to act out the message on the card. From the photo above, you’ll never guess my message. LOL!

@SocialTVDeb great session at #BBNYC ! Thank you! — Reesa Lewandowski (@mommalewsblog) July 17, 2014 Funny thing about making a presentation is you never really know if you are getting your point across to the audience. Nice to hear that I did. On Friday, I’ll be joining panelists to discuss my work in traditional and social media. Hope to see you there.

Welcome July! I hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th weekend. If you didn’t know it already, summer is my favorite season of the year so I am super excited to get started and enjoy every single day of it.

My latest project as the Executive Producer of the movie review show Arise On Screen is keeping me pretty busy here in New York, which hasn’t given me a lot of time to attend Blogger conferences so far this year. Since I can’t travel to the conferences, I am happy to attend one here in New York City. The first annual Blogger Bash conference  is taking place in New York City on July 17 and July 18 and I’ve been invited to speak on both days.  Sponsored by Toy Insider Mom Laurie Schacht and The Big Toy Book, Blogger Bash is a networking event that will allow parenting bloggers to interact with big brand names.

The Big Toy Book

The Blogger Bash two day event will feature ten themed parties, and I will be there participating on both days. On Thursday, July 17 I will be sharing tips about media and getting on camera, as well as leading a workshop. In the workshop I will ask bloggers to pretend they are presenting a pitch to a local television station, and I’ll critique the pitches and any YouTube videos they might be interested in presenting to producers for a possible television appearance.  On Friday July 18th I will be part of a panel with other speakers that starts around 10 AM. I will be participating in a Q&A with Joey Fortman as moderater, and bloggers can ask me questions. So if you have any questions get them ready and come on down.  Click here to buy tickets and I look forward to seeing you there.

This week Ready4Air will have more of our interviews with bloggers and their take on attending sponsored media trips. As I wrote last week in the first installment of our story, a sponsored media trip is part free trip and part work. In an ideal situation the sponsored media trip should be a win-win situation for both bloggers and brands. This week we’ll hear more about how to coordinate a successful press trip.

And finally this week we will feature a conversation about covering the red carpet. I wrote last week that I spent last Sunday at the 25th anniversary celebration of filmmaker Spike Lee’s celebration for his movie  “Do The Right Thing.” Before the screening of the film, media had the opportunity to cover the red carpet arrival of the movie’s featured characters as they arrived for the event.  If you have never worked a red carpet and only seen celebs walking it on TV, I can tell you that in person it’s a lot more hectic than it appears on television. This week I’ll share with you my experience with working the red carpet.

Thanks for stopping by this week and stay tuned for more in the week ahead.
